Nepal - Kathmandu Photowalk

+ More details

Description

Come walk through the Kathmandu Valley with a local photographer.
We’ll spend time exploring the streets and hidden corners of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur—three historic cities full of character. From the busy spice-scented markets of Ason to the stone-paved alleys of Bhaktapur, this is a hands-on photography walk where you’ll experience daily life up close.

We’ll also visit Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath, and Pashupatinath—important religious sites where you’ll find incredible moments to photograph: from monks lighting butter lamps to sadhus meditating or talking to locals. These are places where culture, religion, and street life blend together, offering a wide range of subjects—from portraits and architecture to rituals and street details.

Whether you’re into street, travel, or documentary photography, I’ll guide you through composition, timing, and how to connect with people respectfully while photographing. This walk is for anyone who wants to see more, feel more, and photograph Nepal beyond the usual tourist spots.

  • I have been photographimg with BS in Kathmandu Valley for 4 consecutive days in Kathmandu (Swayambunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath Stupa) as well as Patan (Durbar Square, Golden Temple and Market) and Bakhtapur (Durbar Square ,Taumadhi Tol and Potters Square). Our focus was on street photography with a focus on portraiture, street scenes and a bit of cityscapes. BS is a very talented street photographer with outstanding interpersonal skills in convincing locals to be photographed also in comparison to many other professional photographers I have been shooting with. He was for example spontaneously able to talk to the father of the boy priest at the Golden Temple in Patan to convince him to have a more or less private portrait session, made a contact with the head Sadhu at Pashupatinath for a portrait session, made it possible to shoot monk novices in a monastry in Bakhtapur and encouraged many locals on the streets as well as monks to allow us to photograph them. Besides BS´s street photography skills he has also a very kind attitude with regards to personal communication and interaction. He invested a lot of time in setting up What`s App calls with me to work on an agenda for our photography to meet my expectations. Overall it has been a super nice experience being together and photographing with BS. I told him that he could easily double or triple his modest pricing and customers would still find a benefit doing photo tours with him. Photography wise I got many new ideas how to do street photography in countries with less strict privacy laws.As a summary I can only strongly recommend to go shooting in Kathmandu Valley together with BS as he will be able to create a completely different more authentic feeling on how life is in Nepal also from a photographic standpoint.
