Lagos-Ogun-Osun-Benin-Calabar-Lagos
Experience an unforgettable photography holiday capturing images that will you will always treasure.
Day One
After introductions, early set out and arrival at Abeokuta, Ogun State. After breakfast, we visit the historical “Fortress of Abeokuta”; Olumo Rock which is a massive outcrop of granite rocks of primitive formation 137 meters above sea level with existence of a muster tree growing for over 200 years. Check into hotel (Nneka can recommend) and we explore the city while interacting with the locals. After lunch, we visit the Omo Forestry reserve which lies within a tropical lowland rainforest and it has the most complex and productive vegetation type in Nigeria; estimated that it supports about 8000 species of plants. Accommodation in the hotel for dinner and drinks.
Day Two
Early drive to Osogbo, Osun state. Check into hotel. (Nneka can recommend). After breakfast, we commence our photographic adventure in Osogbo with photographer Nneka Ezemezue and a local guide. We will leave for the famous Osun Osogbo sacred – groove, the landscape and its meandering river dotted with sculptures, sanctuaries and shrines. It is regarded as the abode of the goddess of fertility Osun, one of the pantheon of Yoruba gods and an exciting place explore and photograph. Afterwards, we visit house of the late guardian Susan Wenger. Free lunch will be finger licking local delicacies. At this point, we do a photo walk in order to experience the city life better, then we visit the local batik cloth making shops of Nike Okundaye. Dinner is served at a restaurant or hotel. Overnight in Osogbo.
Day Three
Breakfast. Leave for sightseeing at the Erin Ijesha waterfall. It is a collection of seven cascades which pour over a cliff, thus creating an impressive seven-part waterfall that exudes a therapeutic ambiance which only something natural can produce. This picturesque waterfall provides a wonderful opportunity to make stunning nature photos and long exposures. Lunch. Head off on a four hour drive to the ancient city of Benin. Check into hotel (Nneka can recommend). Explore a bit of night life in the city. Dinner will be provided in a local restaurant. Overnight at Benin.
Day Four
A quick and early breakfast before heading out to explore the ancient Benin City renowned for its bronze casting. We will go on a long photo walk while sightseeing other places such as: the Benin moat- the largest man-made earthworks in the world, the Benin City National Museum which contains priceless objects of antiquities from Benin Kingdom and other parts of the country and the renowned Igun bronze market. Lunch is served. Then transfer to airport from Benin to Calabar. Check into hotel (Nneka can recommend). Dinner at a restaurant. Night in Calabar.
Day Five
Early morning breakfast in Calabar. From museums holding ancient artifacts dating back to the colonial and pre-colonial era, to rich resources, scenic landscapes and historic national parks, Calabar is an ideal destination for making photographs that will leave you with wonderful memories. Meet with local guide. Places we get to visit are; Tinapa- a business and leisure resort located by the Calabar River, Cross River National Park- one of the richest tropical rain forests in West Africa, the National museum with a fascinating collection of artifacts which was partly constructed and designed in Glasgow and transported in a series of part shipments to Nigeria. For lunch, treat yourself to free tasty Edika Ikong Soup or what you choose (Nneka can advice). Calabar is known for delicious local delicacies. Then we will embark on a three hour drive to Obudu town while stopping to capture some wonderful images of the mesmerizing majestic mountains. At arrival, check into hotel in Obudu Mountain Resort or Obudu town. In the evening, you can enjoy the sunset. Dinner and drinks are served.
Day Six
Early morning risers can capture the sunrise. Breakfast. We will explore Obudu Mountain Resort - one of Nigeria’s most interesting and spectacular destinations with a mix of adventure and idyllic tranquility, then embark on mountain climbing and riding Africa’s Longest Cable Car. You stop at every panoramic view to make photographs that capture the grandeur of what you see. Lunch…possibly a picnic. The late afternoon and evening will be spent editing and critiquing your photos. Overnight in Obudu. Farewell dinner in the Resort.
Day Seven
Early breakfast and four hour drive to airport. Fly back to Lagos.
Some evenings will be used for post-production tutorials.
